Nanette: A Very Brave Dog

and how one little dog showed her life

Bertie - 23rd January

I'm sorry to say that Bertie is poorly!! it appears he has a herniated disc. For two or three days, he was looking a bit 'crooked' and was in a good deal of pain....of course, we went to the vet. A steroid injection did something but not as much as I hoped. Yes, I do prefer natural remedies but there are times when one should be thankful for medical help. It's a question of balance and some discrimination I think.

However, yesterday we went to a vet who specialises in Cranio Sacral Therapy, which is a form of Osteopathy. A friend kindly drove us there ... this was a bit of a 'nightmare' because Bertie is so scared of the car and particularly long trips...which this was. This kind of treatment is incredibly sensitive and gentle BUT powerful in its effects....I think the best way to describe it is to say it's a treatment of the 'Energetic Body'.

Although Bertie growled as a matter of course! He didn't entirely dislike this experience, mind you the presence of a cat leaping around the surgery, watching what was going on, made his eyes pop out of his head!! Apparently this cat is always around when this vet is working!! You see? caught myself being 'fixed' for a moment !! 'Cats shouldn't be in a surgery' was the thought in my mind BUT why not??....It's certainly possible that cats and all animals have certain 'healing abilities' that manifest through their Presence.

Today....Bertie woke up fine again. I dared to take him and Nanette in the car early to a parking in the centre of town and took them for a short walk, where we would normally go on foot....I also bought my 'pain au chocolat' for breakfast. So far so good....but this is a common problem of Dachshunds as I well know from the past and I have no intention of prolonging Bertie's stay with us if he has even the glimpse of a pain like that again!!...xx
