Nanette: A Very Brave Dog

and how one little dog showed her life

Who am I Jil ?

E-mail Print PDF

Well, I got bitten twice today!! Once by Bertie and once by a Rabbit!! Yes...a Rabbit!! I was walking both dogs along the edge of the forest....Bertie off the lead. There were houses to our left and suddenly Bertie disappeared at speed and I heard the most awful screaming of an animal. I rushed after him, Nanette following on the lead....and found Bertie on the other end of a very large Rabbit attached to a tree by a chain!!

I grabbed him but his teeth were firmly embedded in the Rabbit...then the Rabbit got away, only to be caught again and again. Eventually Nanette also attempted to join in...I was really stressed and stretched to stop this attack. Finally, I got my hand between Bertie's teeth and the Rabbit's stomach....this was the first bite on the wrist but it achieved my ends. Then, as I lifted Bertie off, Nanette lunged forward to have a go, so I was obliged to pick the Rabbit up by the scruff of the neck and pull  Nanette away....somehow, as I let the Rabbit go and pulled Nanette towards me, ( still holding on to Bertie,) I got a nip from the Rabbit!

I walked the dogs away....the rabbit lying in shock on it's side. We began to walk towards the car and I noticed Bertie was very 'sub' and obviously in pain from his back.....Oh dear!! He was also very upset because I shouted at him and had to 'manhandle ' him to detach him from the rabbit....I could see that he was reminded of some former violence.

I got them home eventually and gave Bertie a square meal....amazing what that can do!!! I then went back to visit the owner of the Rabbit and see what damage had been done. I was delighted and surprised to see the Rabbit sitting up by the tree. I then knocked on the door and a man appeared. He was upset with me for having a dog off the lead!!!!

It had all been such a physical struggle and shock that I just burst into tears at that point ....He was embarrassed and I caught myself at it!!! What? I noticed that I felt 'awkward' about my tears!!That is of course why he was feeling awkward too!! Why are we humans so worried about showing our emotions??? Goodness knows we don't hesitate to let the world know of our pain when we are small children!! So what happens? Well, we all know what happens don't we? But it doesn't hurt to think about it from time to time and 'unlearn' some regrettable repressive tendencies. All ended well  finally and the owner took the Rabbit into the house.

When I got back home I saw Bertie was still very anxious, he followed me everywhere, I had the feeling he was asking me a question....'Who am I Jil ?' It was as if he wasn't sure of his place anymore. I had to tell him that I couldn't answer that as I don't know who I am either!! Gradually, during the evening he relaxed and was very happy to go in the shoe cupboard to sleep!! His back is definately giving problems today but I am taking it easy with him and using the Spine Essence of course ... it does have an excellent effect!! This dog is an incredible little soul.....very 'Fine' actually, just like Nanette. It's a privilege to be with them. xx
