Nanette: A Very Brave Dog

and how one little dog showed her life

The value of OIL

E-mail Print PDF

Nanette and I observe alot on our walks and we also meet a few people with their Dogs who stop to chat . I often notice things like the dog's general demeanour, it's mood, it's relationship or quite often ...lack of ....relationship with the owner plus things about appearance which are signs of good health or otherwise.

I know it is the case ( sadly ) that a large number of Dog Owners feed their animals entirely on dry food and although this is clearly not natural or desirable, we have to face the fact that it's unlikely to change ....given the convenience of just throwing some dry food in the bowl. There is usually an instruction on the packet to make sure there is plenty of water available for the dog to drink so the manufacturers obviously know that such feeding can and usually does cause problems to kidneys etc......particularly in later life.

One of the things I notice in our canine friends whose  diet is dry, is a certain ' lack lustre' of the coat but manufacturers seldom mention the addition of oil to the plate.

Nanette has a handful of the best quality croquettes at the bottom of the bowl to act as a biscuit then raw meat or raw fish and sometimes Veg are added as the main dish. Breakfast time , it's a spoonful of croquettes topped by a raw egg ( organic of course ). On the meat or fish meal, I always put a couple of tablespoons of OLIVE OIL. Now, it depends to some extent on the size of your dog of course, so you would give oil according to size.

In a recent article, we were discussing ' Worming ' and Bowel Function. The addition of good Olive oil is marvellous not only for the coat but  for clean, smooth Bowel Function and for the whole body . A simple ,natural way to help a Dog being fed only dry food.
