Nanette: A Very Brave Dog

and how one little dog showed her life

An article on 'Happy Pills for Pet' was printed in the British Press a few days ago and we reproduced it here on the front page. We are told that there is a $33 billion market in the United States in response to a supposed increase in Canine Depression, Obesity, Amnesia, Separation Anxiety Disorder and 'Compulsive Behaviour Disorder'!! Sounds more like a modern teenager doesn't it? It's fairly certain that a combination of heavy marketing by drug companies who care only about profits plus 'unconscious' owners who want a 'simple solution' in the form of a pill are set to explode the market into other countries!!

The animal community has little hope of avoiding the fall out of our utter selfishness and blank refusal to face our own problems!! I believe it was in the same daily paper that I read a story ....in connection with this article.....that described a married couple whose dog  was 'restored' to normality' by a prozac type drug!! Apparently, this dog started to hide from the owners under tables and chairs and also became very 'depressed'!! I ask you in all honesty...What do you think caused the dog to become depressed and hide from its owners?? I truly wish we could discuss it over a drink!!!

One can be pretty sure that there was something 'going on' between the couple or within the family that frightened and depressed the dog. Surely the solution was for the couple to discover and own up to the family behavioural pattern which triggered this unfortunate scenario!!?? Like this, the family would be able to heal these unconscious rifts by becoming 'conscious', added to which the dog would not need ...never did need.... a brain altering drug!!!

What they were doing collectively was externalising their conflict into the world of form through projection so that they could continue to hide from themselves and see the problem as belonging to the dog !! How insane is this?....How can we reverse this tide of insanity to protect our animals??

Well, I think the first and most important thing is to realise and accept that we are being (not too subtly), manipulated by commercial enterprises, who actually study the psychology of their intended market so that they can play on human weakness and thus make huge profits!! There's something about 'means justifying ends' here! or is it 'ends justifying means'!? I'm never quite sure how it should go but either way will suit this case. You don't believe it??

BUT hear this?? I had occasion to go to my vet yesterday just to pick up some heart pills for Bertie ( he has a defective valve in the heart ). I had previously ordered an organic form of croquettes.  (Both Nanette and Bertie have a snack of croquettes for breakfast with gravy from the stew I make every day.) I was told that 'unfortunately, we can't stock organic foods because if we do, the commercial pet food suppliers we rely on for many of our customers, will no longer deliver to us!!! I wasn't surprised but I was disgusted!! It proved to me that 'the conspiracy' as I call it...is true!!

The question is...What are they afraid of and what are they trying to hide??? I am personally not in favour of commercial pet foods for reasons concerning dubious manufacturing processes and content. They occupy the same slot in my mind as behavioural drugs and the like.... quick fix...easy on the owner... never mind the animal, practical, 'altogether better'  ....That they are also sold in veterinary surgeries gives them that stamp of 'official approval' !! Question...Do the vets get a rake off???  xx
